Dear Con

First let me thank you for this great game. Its really fun (even i only find useless melee uniques :D).
I spend much time playing it. I love trading stuff but from my point of view (and from the point of many others) its difficult and annoying because players have to post their items in the chat over and over again.

I tried to join this forum but I don‘t get the validation e-mail (maybe because im armor player? EDIT: now i got it. your forum doesn't like german email accounts i think (gmx?) - i had to use a google mail accout).
I also tried to contact you via e-mail but you didn‘t answered/got it/saw.

Last weeks I was thinking about how to improve the trading for all players. About knowing what other players offering or looking for.

I programmed a little fan-website and now I like to have your okay for running it.
First I started it for the [BRD] as an intern website. Now I want to make it more public.

http://dz-trader.bplaced.net/

Because I‘m no programmer it‘s a very simple site.
I never posted this link public in the chat. I explained it and whispered the link to interested players. Most of them really like the idea!

Here‘s my idea:
People can show me up to 10 items they like to trade and give me ingame 1-2 keys (depending on the level sum of all items) for my work (need 2 min per item). I don't take real money! I don't want to make money with my idea. The keys (or items like weapons, nades ...) will allways be in game and will be used for trading and helping team members! I'm not selling stuff to the users from outside of your service. It's more like doing a favour, helping them selling their stuff and show it to the whole world...
I will make screenshots, edit the html/css and add the screens of the items to my website.
Interested players can visite my site and hover over the items to see the stats and the sellers name.
They have to contact the seller in game and talk with him about pricing and trading.
The trade is also in game! After selling an item, the seller contacts me and i delete it from the website.

It‘s much work and first I will see if it‘s worth (Do users like my idea? The plan is to run and keep this site updated till october).
There is no need for using my website - its just an option. All players still can use the chat for offering items and finally they need it for trading. It‘s just like a bonus overview. A special service.

I like to push my project forward and would like to have the absolute okay from you because some people think its illegal, an exploit(!?) and against your terms.

Let me tell you that I don‘t want to put illegal stuff on it. I don‘t want to change the construction of the page only editing and adding the items. No illegal advertising, viruses, porn stuff and so on (you can ban me if I would do this - i take all the consequences for running this website).

Oh yes, the background-image: If you don‘t like that I‘m using it i will delete it. I uploaded it to my server so you have no traffic. Just say a work.

I know, it's little bit difficult but most players i was talking with really love the idea. They really want an improved trading system here in game (maybe for you as a little feedback again).

Hope to hear something this way from you.

Hopefully and thankful,
Duuust

Nice job Duuust, it looks really cool.

I'm not sure whether I'd use it myself, since I always liked chatting with fellow traders in chat, but I'll check your site now and then to see if there's anything up for sale that I like :)

Really good thing and thanks for the effort.

Seems like a nice way to advertise his stuff, checking there as well from time to time of course.

That whole thing could create a lot of new opportunities.

Duuust Great Idea, It was a nice idea to implement it. Nobody really uses the trading forums so this is needed. (However you should ask other people to help you as some people might not be able to contact you)

So while it's a cool idea, we can't have you taking in-game currency for out of game services. Much like people taking out of game currency for in-game services, it creates real world problems for us.

Overall, totally fine with you running a site like this, but we can't have you trading in-game currency for your out of game services. In game trading for in-game services, totally fine. Just don't cross the streams :)

Hey Con,

thank you for your repsonse. I changed my website and took out the "price list".

I absolutly understand and respect your wish. From now on I won't take keys for my service.

Just to be sure that I got it: Now I'm offering a paypal solution (out-game service - out-game currency, so I don't cross the streams, right?) - but I'm very unhappy with this solution. I can't offer my service for free because it's lot of work - I don't want to take money and rip off the users for a semi-professional service - and I don't want to "ruin" the way you earn your money, feed your family and pay your bills.

Would it make a difference to you when I would offer my service to the users for loots? Things users find in the deadzone (but no keys!) like guns, gears, watter, granades and so on? Guess not hm?

Difficult difficult..

Maybe there are still some guys who like to use and visite my website.

And maybe one day you will update the trading system here so that there won't be a need for using my website ;)

Anyway, thank you very much for your response and your feedback.

Con, I know you have talked about it in the past. Although if you look at games like dead frontier , they have a similar system to what I think Dust is trying to suggest. People list items they stay there for maybe just 1hr, if there are server issues I understand, and for the trade, it would still be used for unique to unique trades. Im just saying it would make it easier to find weapons you want if there was an index where you could search for say a 3/3 M60, and find it for a deal, or maybe a m107 for overpriced. Just would make the trading system much easier.

Edit: Con since you are behind the code and scripting of the game, could you make a website like http://www.tf2outpost.com/ where people could post what they had and say what they wanted for it, maybe it would be within the forums or something, but imagine the ease of use. Also to post the items you would have to use a screenshot unless Con uses magic.

The key part I took from Con's comment was;

Much like people taking out of game currency for in-game services, it creates real world problems for us.

With Paypal being an out of game currency but the trading being in game.

AZLeader,

Auction style systems have been requested before but shot down due to some very complex (I'm no programmer) issues about server times and duplication of items. Have a look at Sev's post here; http://forum.conarti...ction/?p=109379

My entire Idea wasn't auction style, the game called Team fortress 2 uses a similar trading style to what Con has minus the fuel, and free spots. The website in my last post is an example of how they showcase their items which would be fantastic, it takes out the need for looking through forever to find something and people post what they want for their item as well say 20 prem keys for an 3/3 M60. I would then message that person in game with the 20 prem keys and say I would like to trade them.

Maybe Auction system was the wrong phrase. Have a look at what Sev said, it describes the problems with getting a "message board" style system

The ultimate would be an Auction House setup that's similar to World of Warcraft, but it's a MASSIVE build. Besides the actual auction system (which is the equivalent of building eBay basically) there's a need for a supporting mail system and a more complex asynchronous trading system. So unfortunately, it's not likely to happen.

The thing is we don't actually have a currency, else a Dead frontier system could work, people put up an item for a set price they want. And the buyer gets a list of all the people offering that item and the prices, and he just selects buy.

But since people in this game wants all kinds of different things it's not really going to work.

This is still a problem for us. You're charging money for something related to the game. I'm not sure how much clearer I can make it, we don't want you doing that.

I'm sure you're an honest person, but this sort of thing is potentially exploitable and a huge headache for us if/when people get ripped off.

Yeah, a trading currency would also need to be introduced and balanced on top of all that other stuff. Way too much work.

IIRC, the currency in the DZ FB/AG is Lv3 HERC keys, and then premium keys, with Premium keys = 4x Lv3 Herc Keys.

Why not build over that? It might be still balanced, the system just needs to make trading easier by accessibility.

Keys is not an Official Currency.

Fuel is one for example, and i highly doubt he's going to allow players to trade stuff for fuel although i remember him saying he would make tradeable fuel caches in the past, we have yet to see these.

Dear Con

I'm sorry I didn't get it first.

Misunderstood your statement about the in-game & out-game "streams".

I took out the paypal solution and offering my service only to some friends and alliance members for free.

Today there are over 300 different items offered on my website. I try to update it every day. My guys getting some offers daily so I see that people use and like my website.

Guess I will start a different project for all users soon. I will report on that in some weeks / months here again.

Thank you all for your feedback!

any chance that someone could make a website for price checking? such as either selecting an item and entering in the stats or having a general price range system for each kind of item. I ask because people in trade dont give out price checks most of the time people ask (not just me lol) and not everyone knows the price range of every item in the game

See, here's the thing though.  Way back when, there was this whole deal about making a market vs a trading system.  And Con went with a trading system.  And here, again, went with a 'no centralization' approach.  Like it or not, that means there are no prices.

When one does get a number back on a price check, its pulled directly out of some player's unmentionables.  Items in game have no 'price'; neither in keys nor in cash.  There are just agreements reached in trade chat.  Nothing more, nothing less.
