They were in the last games of the LS series, why not here?

too many have said that they would be overpowered, and in part they are right, so what would make this one different from the rest?

simple, a new variant of explosive weapons, active (so they have a limited number of uses), and with a range limit.

now, the big difference between the grenades and the launchers would be that grenades tend to roll and take a little while to explode, a proyectile from a launcher would explode on impact.

now some basic stats:

M79

lvl 25 (since explosives go with a 5 lvl gap each)

Range: 18

Damage: 250

Damage vs Buildings: 100

Effective range: 3

Carry limit: 2 shots

RPG-7

lvl 30

Range: 20

Damage: 500

Damage vs Buildings: 400

Effective Range: 5

Carry limit: 1 (single use launcher, once used players would need to craft/loot another one).

The lack of a "Detonation Time" is because these explode on contact with an enemy/obstacle, and like the grenades, they wouldn't go far past the range limits (following the "aiming to the floor", to cause as much collateral damage as possible).

Important notes:

killing zombies with explosives would be a tad easier, a good thing since there will be stronger enemies soon in the game.

just like with grenades, players could shoot to any place on the "aim ring"

arming a group with nothing but rpg's for a compound raid would be a terrible idea, since all the rockets would explode before hitting the targets (if they are past the 20 range).

more variety to the current arsenal

they would be an excelent multi-purpose weapon (players shooting to broken cars/thrash containers to kill nearby idle zombies outside of their weapon's effective range)

like the other explosives, there could be craftable improvised (somewhat less powerful) variants.

Pros:

Explosive charge flies a lot faster, Lack of a fuse (sometimes a few zombies of a group have enought time to get out of the effective range of a grenade), some (if not all) the grenade launchers could use the reload animation of the sawn-off shotgun, explodes even if it didn't had a direct hit on an enemy, rocket launchers wouldn't need reload animation at all.

Cons:

Rare, Really loud, while aiming it the character must stand still leaving it vulnerable, if something gets in its way it'll explode (possible damage to the user if its fired to a close target), they would require a brand new system for its working, hit detection and other complex technical stuff.

feedback is welcome.

Stop spamming this crap. Every day on the old and now the new forum people ask for grenade launchers and/or rocket laucnhers.

They shouldnt be in the game as theyre incredibly overpowered. raiders would just come in, one-shot whole groups of survivors and blow up entire bases, no problem.

Realisitically, where are you going to find working rockets? rockets are delicate, and being in abandoned ruins for 2 years, as well as already being heavily used would make them incredibly rare.

MAYBE if you did have rockets, you could find them in Secure HERC lockboxes. those havent been opened yet so its a faint possibility.

EDIT: rocket and grenae launchers have pretty short range. GUIDED missiles are accurate, unguided rockets are harder to aim than a handgun, same for low-velocity lobbing grenade laucnhers.

Agreed. Usually I try to make suggestions to make things work, but as the OP said, "too many have said that they would be overpowered."

at least i tried to "balance" them a little bit.

@ Chaos: you clearly didn't read anything.

Yeah i read, and I say that its pretty much impossible to find working launchers. where would you even find any? is there an military armory location in the future? you arent gonna find a grenade launcher in a grocery store.

rockets usually explode when their fuel runs outs, so "outside their effective range" theyre useless. grenades explode on impact other than specific fused grenades. the common game "bouncy grenades" arent realistic.

there's basically no way to balance them out. Even if you make them rare, people will still find/buy/stockpile them and then blow everything up.

wait, there are a couple possible way to balance them. Make them unique weapons with ammo costs. having a single dedicated grenade launcher survivor is possible.

The drawback of being an unique weapon with ammo cost: they can be "hard scoped", meaning that they could be fired just like an M24 from side to side of the map, effectively killing everyone, that's why in my idea is the "explodes upon reaching the range limit".

on top of that, both are aimed more as a PvE weapon rather than a PvP weapon.

also, the way i put it they can't be that overpowered since getting close enought for an effective impact would put the user at range of many of the available sniper rifles, the player would be killed before firing the thing, just like grenades.

hard to find working weapons... then what about all the stuff we find on a every day basis, most of it should be broken and useless, yet, some has cool attachments, some is better in quality than others, and chainsaws have infinite fuel; realism and logic clearly jumped out the window when the zombies entered the room.

you can repair a gun easily by switching a part, you cant do that easily to a launcher. a rocket launcher that misfires is a bad thing. It may completely explode in your face or keep a live explosive next to you. even if the launcher works, the ammunition may be duds, or explode.

the simpler a weapon is, the less chance of failure. rocket launchers have a much higher chance of failing than a gun.

===========

rockets and grenades would be overpowered vs humans, but against zombies they would be nearly useless.

zombies in this game rarely clump up for explosives to be totally effective. the splash damage from a launcher would be ineffective, you would need direct hits. after al that, wouldnt it be easier to just shoot them with bullets. making them active gear is even worse, as you have a100+ zombies, and one or two grenades/rockets.

rocket are anti-vehicle and anti-structure weapons. theyre incredibly inefficient versus small targets.

==================

there are plenty of reason NOT to have grenade or rocket launchers. the only reasons to have them are "because theyre cool" which isnt a valid reason, and if some kind of super-mutant boss like the tank from left4dead, tyrant from resident evil, or any other very different game crosses over.

"repairing guns", then why we can't turn a old M16A2 into a Recoiless Scoped M16A2?
